BIG thanks to Stokey’s melodious community choir Chorus of Dissent who melted away the freezing rain outside and brought a warm glow to our hearts with their Christmas by Candlelight carol concert.
The church was full to the rafters with festive songs spanning the centuries, from an ancient 4th Century chant to CoD’s very modern versions of our favourite carols. And all resonating around our very beautiful interior with its magnificent acoustic.
Overheard from someone talking to a choir member on the way out: “Last weekend I heard Messiah sung in a major cathedral by the cathedral choir. This weekend I’ve heard your Christmas concert. The cathedral choir had their heads buried in their copies, hence little expression or engagement. Chorus of Dissent were full on, looking up and communicating, singing their socks off and making a marvellous sound. What a contrast!”
